Abandoned Railroad Bridge Littered with Seagulls

This railroad bridge crosses the Fox River south of the Mason Street bridge and north of DePere's Claude Allouez bridge. Large ships still use the narrow channel between this permanent bridge and one of those old spinning railroad bridge which is now affixed in the open position.

On Vacation Today - Okefenokee Swamp Water Lily

I was on vacation today and am barely getting this in under the wire. This isn't a Green Bay photo because I wasn't in Green Bay today. Instead, I went for a photo I took almost three months ago to the day while I was in Georgia.

Hinterland Brewery

The other great brewery in town (apologies if there are others that I don't know of). Hinterland Brewery has the more upscale of the two restaurants and their beer had been available in bottles in the local stores. Don't come in for lunch though ... they are only open for dinner.

Nicky's Lionhead Tavern, De Pere South Face

This is the South Face of Nicky's Lionhead Tavern. I like the plaque above the door, which you can see better if you click on the photo.

Inside the bar they have a quote in a frame with three parrots on it, at one of the tables that at some point I'll get a photo of. It's in a tough spot to take a photo due to the lighting by that table. For the moment I'll just repeat it for you:

"No chord of music has yet been found
To even equal that sweet sound
Which to my mind all else surpasses,
The clink of ice in crystal glasses."

Nicky's Lionhead Tavern, De Pere North Face

When I first moved to Green Bay, I wasn't thrilled with the town ... I'm more citified ... or so I've been told ... and it's true. One thing I didn't expect to find was the best sandwich ... ever.

Nicky's Chicken Muffaletta Sandwich. Eat the fries warm and save half the sandwich for dinner.

Flower Week: Purple ... or Indigo?

This was really my favorite of the flowers ... it was the closest to blue.

Flower Week: Just Another Red Day

I prefer red wine ... but it just doesn't photograph as well.

Flower Week: Purplish and White

Another fine example of flowers blossoming this time of year in hanging pots all over the city.

Flower Week: Orange

At least it's not red ...

Flower Week: Very Red

I think I like the "painted" or "mixed media" feel I got from this photo. This was more a side effect of the wind while I was trying to focus, than anything I did deliberately.

Flower Week: Lavenderish

As usual, I don't know what kind of plant this is, but I like it and I'm pretty sure it's not actually lavender. I've got at least one more round of flowers in me ... and I've got to say people really prefer the reds and purples. Are there a lot of blue flowers? I'd like to see some of those.

Squirrel takes advantage of my bird feeder on a windy day

VW Bus

I just really like old cars, and they aren't out in Green Bay very often.

The Local Canada Goose

There are a lot of Canada Goose in Green Bay. These are just enjoying a nice day of being on the Fox. Some occasionally block traffic on main street. They are third on the list of reasons (behind boats and trains) for the traffic jams in Green Bay. Mostly I just enjoy watching them fly or swim by.

Weeds Blossoming

Like most plants I'm not sure what this is, but it really annoys me as it's infested my lawn and garden. I thought it was some kind of ground ivy, but I guess it's called field bindweed. As bad as it is in the yard it's really tough to deal with in my garden. It crawls up my raspberrys and breaks them off at the top.

Glaciers in July?

A slight water theme perchance?

This is the Glacial Edge fountain in front of the wonderful Neville Public Museum on the West Side of Green Bay. As nice as it is to watch, I enjoy closing my eyes and listening to the water fall down fountain on one side and the water move on past on the Fox River not 100 feet away.

Currently at the Neville, I recommend the exhibits: "Paintings by Rafael Francisco Salas" and "Spiders".

Green Bay's Northwest Side Water Tower

Something simple today ... the water tower on the NW side of Green Bay. I assume this is where my water pressure comes from ... gotta say I'm thankful for that.

Farmer's Market: Cigar Store Indian

I saw this Cigar Store Indian in a parking lot adjacent to the Green Bay Farmer's Market. I'm not sure if it was something they bought there or were bringing to their booth and hadn't muscled it over there yet.

For me it brought up pleasant memories of a great band from Crabapple, GA (Atlanta, GA area) that I used to travel all over to see. If you trust my taste in music you can find out more about the bands on their wikipedia and myspace pages. The band is clearly defunct or on hiatus, but their original lineup was spectacular live ... even in front of crowds of five or less. I might be able to persuaded to put a video I took of them doing a cover of "Ring of Fire" seguing to "I Wanna Be Sedated" and back to "Ring of Fire". They even played Oshkosh's Waterfest a couple of times. But I digress ...

Green Bay Farmers Market

More information can be found on the Farmer's Market here. Locally grown fresh fruit and vegetables can be had here as well as local favorite food and drink, music and the best for last(from a slight distance) the conglomeration of smell. Another photo from the Farmer's Market will be featured tomorrow.

Also, soon I'll be replacing all the old photos with larger ones where you can see more of the flaws!

Back on the Boat: Calumet of Cleveland, OH

The Calumet goes thru the uprights of the Walnut Street Bridge. More info on the Calumet right can be found here. The Walnut Street Bridge is defacto mid point of the city as Walnut St divides the city by North and South Addresses and the Fox River divides the city by East and West Addresses.

Titletown Brewery - Suddenly I'm Thirsty

This brewpub and restaurant used to be the west side train station. You can check out the history of the restaurant here. They brew many of their own tasty beers and a root beer. My favorite of their food choice's is pot roast ... but I really like pot roast.

Boat Delays Traffic Going West over the Ray Nitschke Bridge

While I had time on my hands I stepped out of the car and got a shot of the "coal boat" traveling down the from the Bay of Green Bay down the Fox River

Sorry I didn't post sooner ... wanted a picture of the full moon today. Clearly I need to work on my night shooting. I promise I'll get a better shot for next time.

Fish (Shrimp Really and a Band) ... Don't Worry It's Just One Day

Sorry, it was a late night last night. Green Bay Daily Photo was at Summerfest in Milwaukee, WI last night. This is just the shrimp that I enjoy watching skitter around my fish tank. He(she?) was featured today because at Summerfest last evening I saw the punk/ska band Reel Big Fish. The bonus photo is the only good photo I got of the(left to right), trumpet player, trombone player and singer/guitarist.

Flower Week: Yellow

Comes to an end with my favorite of the pictures I took during the week. I guess I just like the sharpness of the foreground blossoms juxtaposed with the blurriness of the background blossoms.

Saturday, July 4, 2009

Flower Week: Yellow

Flower Week: Yellow (and White) with a free insect. I wonder if there still will be flowers in bloom next month. Maybe I'll have a vegetable week.

Flower Week: Last of the Reds

Last of the Reds today ... although they'll be plenty of those tonight at the fireworks.

Flower Week: Moving on to Purpley

Day four and we're still in the red family ... sort of. I still think they are great while they last. As long as I don't have to breathe the pollen.

Flower Week: Pinkish

Just another nice flower blossom in the "red" family.

Check out citydailyphoto.com for the July Theme of "Empty" that is going on at City Daily Photo Dot Com.
