Low Hanging Fruit

I took this photo earlier this summer while taking photos of the Canada Goose that hang out and eat the fallen apples.

If Detective Charlie Crews from the tv show Life was around, I'd say it was probably he'd have picked it. Also if you need something to watch consider renting the first season of Life ... I really enjoyed that show.

On Top of the Bridge

Today, we're on top of the bridge connecting East and West De Pere. De Pere is a suburb just south of Green Bay. The bridge is the Claude Allouez Bridge and it opened in October of 2007.

Under the Bridge

A semi-artsy photo today. I took this under the State Highway 172 bridge from the east side of the Fox River. The Fox River Trail is nice paved trail along the river on the east side that goes from downtown Green Bay to De Pere (and then to Greenleaf).

Also, the river looks a lot shallower at this point.

St. Norbert's Scored Shortly Afterwards

You can't really from this picture but in addition to the goalie stick on the ice in the foreground, the Foresters goalie also lost his blocker pad at the same time he lost the goalie stick. So it was just a matter of time until the Green Knights scored their fourth goal.

The St. Norbert College Green Knights took on the Lake Forest College Foresters at the Cornerstone Community Center tonight in a meeting of old division rivals and travel partners. Lake Forest recently switched conferences to the MCHA and it has really changed the schedule for the Knights this year. I'm sure you'll see some more pictures as the season goes on.

Admirals Goal!

First off, I have to apologize to Karl for this photo. First off I'm encroaching on his territory, Milwaukee Daily Photo and one of his favorite subjects, hockey. He was at the game as well, so I wouldn't be surprised if he has photos from this game on his blog.

This photo is from the Milwaukee Admirals home opener at the Bradely Center in Milwaukee on Friday. This is a photo of the game winning, power play, overtime goal by Center, Ben Guite. Ben was recently demoted to the Admirals from their NHL affliate, Nashville Predators, but he was golden in OT. Ben Eaves fired a shot on goal and Guite buried the rebound five hole (currently hidden in the goalie's pads).

Fort Howard Guardhouse Side View

This is the side view of the guardhouse. You can tell where the add on have been made. I think it would have been cool to own a house that was at one time the guardhouse for Fort Howard. Zachary Taylor must have spent some time there as well.

Local news reports that the guardhouse will be restored at Heritage Hill at a cost of around $300,000 and an educational program will be developed around it.

Condemned Building

This condemned building (from 1833) is more than that. Amazingly it's a piece of history.

Part of this building is the original guardhouse of Fort Howard (Run for a time by Zachary Taylor). Apparently it's been moved once, but it's still in the Fort Howard area of Green Bay. The city issued a Raze or Repair Order in December in 2008. Since then the city has decided to remove the building (for $20,000) and turn it over to Heritage Hill Historical Site. Heritage Hill has a few other of Fort Howard's original buildings so I'm sure the building will feel right at home.
