This one again was photographed by Tom. I beleive it was taken on one of his trees in his backyard and shows the more typical butterfly view.

Sylvania Wilderness Area
Once again I'm annexing the north woods.
This picture is from Clark Lake of the Slyvania Wilderness Area of the Ottowa National Forest. This area has 5 large lakes and 34 in total. It has never been developed and they don't allow any kind of motor boat on the lakes. They are clear down to the bottom in 30 or more feet on a nice sunny day. This particular day it was totally overcast and rainy so I didn't take any big lake pictures ... but this one shows the unpolluted water quite nicely.
My favorite of the large lakes is Loon Lake because of the the loons on the lake. Next time I'm going back on a nice day and hopefully get some better pictures.

UFO Landing Port
I actually took this picture today, I had some software training to do in Kewaunee, WI. I took my camera with me knowing I'd be passing through some nice landscapes and a local amusement.
This is an actual UFO Landing Port put up by a Poland, WI resident. Poland is a small town a few miles South East of Green Bay. According to the web link most town residents including his son thinks he's crazy. I don't think that, I think he's egotistical to think they'd come all this way with a space craft designed to land right there.

Ducks on the Pond
Another case of wild animals noticing me and my camera and fleeing. I'm starting to get a complex. All the pictures of the ducks I have are of them scurrying away on the water and I liked this one best because of the water dripping from the right one's bill.
Again, these pictures were really taken in the North Woods, so once again I'm claiming them as my territory. At least one of the others has good water sparkles ... I'm sure it will show up some day.

Eagle Flys Overhead
More flying creatures this week. Slight disclaimer in that this in not from Green Bay, as I have now claimed the North Woods into my Green Bay Daily Photo territory (for the day at least).
I spotted this majestic bird flying near Big St. Germain Lake with two other eagles about a third of mile south of the lodge I was staying at.
This bird was the smallest of the three and it must have nested north of where I stayed, as I saw it fly over many times during the weekend, but only got pictures of it twice.
And it football news, my friends from Japan, Butterfly and Coach, seemed disappointed in Brett and didn't believe he would do well. So if two Japanese women can figure this out, what does that say about our neighbors to the west?

The Einstein Project: By the Bay
The actual name of this piece is Better Butterfly By the Bay, by the artist Sienna and sponsored by General and Vascular Consultants, LLC.
This piece is located on the west side of the Ray Nitschke Bridge and this is the best photo I'll get of it without a boat ... maybe someday.

The Einstein Project: Butterflies Among Us
In honor of my friend, "Butterfly", from Japan coming to town I figured I'd show some of the art placed around town from the Einstein Project.
This piece is the Butterfly Faerie, by Naomi Moes Jenkins and sponsored by the Aon Corporation.
Butterfly is a huge Packers fan. I'll ask her what she thinks of the whole Brett Farve thing when I see her on Friday. She will be the official voice of the blog on the Green Bay Packers as
I'm not native enough to bleed Green and Gold (translation, I root for a team out east, and it doesn't matter which as I don't follow them much either). Hockey (Green Knights, Admirals and Predators), baseball(Brewers, Timberrattlers and Bullfrogs), and volleyball(Wisconsin) are my sports.

Green Bay Packers: Olde City Stadium Sign
This is the sign at the sight of the Olde City Stadium (New City Stadium ... is now Lambeau Field). This is the football stadium on the site of East High School. It's on the east side of Green Bay just around the corner from "The Jo".
Teams used the locker rooms inside the high school, which were so inadequate opposing teams often changed in their hotel rooms.
The Green Bay Packers played here from 1933 - 1956. They moved from this site under threat from the NFL. The Packers were to permanently movie to Milwaukee if their facilities didn't improve.
In 1933 there were 6,000 seats and by 1956 there were 25,000.

Groundhog Daze: He Notices Me
Sunday, August 9, 2009
Groundhog Daze
I'd been after this groundhog for weeks. I see him(her?) by the same large, landscaped flowerbed frequently. I was finally able to get a two good and one passable shot of him or her.
Most of the time the groundhog scurries back to its nest in the flowerbed before I can get the 300 mm lens out. Today he clearly to busy being a natural lawn mower to pick me up right away.

And the Runner Is Safe
Luckily they managed to strand him that inning. Only a few more games left this season!
The Bullfrogs are part of the Northwoods League. Each team has a GM which signs college players from North America (unpaid) to their teams. Because of this the players turn over often due to being drafted or graduation.

And the Runner Goes
What can I say ... Sunday was a beautiful day for a ball game ... or two, I was at the T-Rats game in Grand Chute just prior to this. This was one of their better offensive games this year. The Bullfrogs have good pitching this year but not enough offense to win consistently.
The Bullfrogs play at Joannes Stadium near East High School on the East Side of Green Bay. It's affectionately called "The Jo" and hosted many minor league teams in the past. The Bullfrogs aren't a minor league team they are a in summer college league ... more on that tomorrow.

Bullfrogs Baseball
"... stride into the ball, turn of the wrist, crack, jog and touch 'em all!"
Peter Cooper - 715 (for Hank Aaron)
Best I could with a chain link fence in front of me. They'll be more from this game this week. This is from the local baseball team, the Green Bay Bullfrogs. This wasn't really a home run but it was the best picture of good bat/ball contact I got. More on the Bullfrogs this week.
The quote is from the song 715 (for Hank Aaron) off the album Mission Door. You can tell he has local ties by the song Sheboygan. The song is about baseball, racism and other things from baseball's and times past. If you like, you can find more information about this at his web site.
Also, this is my first photo on the blog to use manual focus ... maybe I am getting better.
